i know i had vivid dreams last night involving important events and or situations. but as per usual something roused me prematurely, and the entire recollection of these dreams vanished. today it was sterling management, asking if i had actually moved out since they dont have my keys yet. what the fuck? do they not send representatives out to the apartments the day after the 30 day notice states the person vacated?!

ashtons birthday was yesterday. he turned four.

four.

i know it comes as a shock to most parents as their children age, but seriously. four years old.

it had been sunny and hot all week up until tuesday. then it suddenly decides to rain. so enchanted forest was canceled for a more appropriate setting: chuck e cheese. jillian and whitney. mom and cacey. torgen, ashton and myself. cups full of coins. thousands of children. employees full of teeming bitterness. what a terrible job.

the most amazing moment came when a gathering of some twenty small children danced along to the hokey poke lead by chuck e himself. at the climax of the song, an employee threw a handful of tokens and tickets into the air. as they fell, sudden chaos broke loose and the entire mass of children fell to the ground and scrambled to collect like a smarm of ants on a discarded candycane. the sudden wave of children to the ground exposed one very determined child who continued to stand.

ashton.

he wasnt interested in the tokens or the tickets. he wanted the mouse. and in the flurry of distractive treats, chuck had scurried off....but ashtons eyes quickly locked on and hunted him down. enthusiastic high fives ensued between the two.

years from now, that mouse and even the other characters ashton saw at disneyland will still be held to the highest caliber of celebrity status and endearing awe. the magical quality ashton sees in them as they walk around in their crude costumes is something i will always admire.
