PE Yates: i was talking to my sis about andrew meyer
the UF student who got tased
and she showed me your journal
and i cant disagree more!
his unlawful arrest
for speaking his mind in a public setting violated his first and 4th amendment rights
and whenever you are the subject of an unlawful arrest
you have the right to resist that arrest
and regardless
even if it was a lawful arrest
six officers against one guy
whos face down on the ground
to use a taser is absolutely paramount to police brutality
it was completely uncalled for in that circumstance, no matter what.

JDR Noe: i dont know how to agree with this. ok so there were some rights violations. but what about the rights of tact. common sense. not everything needs to be a protest. not everything needs to be made into a public spectacle. i dont care if it was his right to be a total asshole, it was a question and answer session. he was allowed to ask his questions, and then he was expected to sit down. he didnt. he was an asshole. so what if it took six cops to restrain him. it took six cops to restrain him because he refused to just leave on his own, to even sit down and apologize for his ridiculous behavior. i would only allow an appreciation for six cops needing to restrain him if he was struggling to save his child from capital punishment or the last fir tree from being cut down. its best to pick your fights during appropriate times. this guy chose to make a bigger deal out of something than it ever will be. he wasnt standing up for civil rights, racism or an important cause. he was making a scene just to make one. schizophrenics will do this. perez hilton will do this. its easy to categorize this guy as arrested for speaking his mind. its easy to title this entire circumstance as simple as that. but thats not the case. civil disobedience. thats what it was. the same as walking nude down a public street or harassing pedestrians. he wasnt being arrested initially, he was being asked to leave. and preston, i completely respect you, but understand that regardless of an arrest being unlawful or not, resisting it will never end the way you want it. it will never make things easier or better for you.

lets talk about this. i want to know more. i want to know why i stand on this side and youre over on that side.
