i thoroughly enjoy and envy the lack of insecurity my own child has.

ashton doesnt care what he looks like before he goes to school. he doesnt care what color combinations of clothing he mismatches. or that his shoes dont go with the color scheme of his outfit.
he doesnt care how short his jeans are. or how big his shoes make his feet appear.
he doesnt seem to notice how ridiculous he looks because of how many teeth are missing from his smile.
he has big front teeth coming in to replace what hes lost, and that doesnt bother him at all.
he doesnt care if his hair is flat, matted or messy in the morning.
he doesnt stop by the mirror on the way out the door to check for flaws in his outward appearance. he doesnt worry what others will think of him.
i just dont think it occurs to him.

for him, he can look fine or better, but never bad. rolling out of bed and going to school is fine, but rolling out of bed and putting stuff in his hair to give him a mowhawk is better.

his physical appearance is just not concerning to him. he will still talk to the girls in his class. he will still approach people hes never met. even toothless with matted hair.

when do we start to care about such trivial things? what first causes a boy to feel insecure about how he looks or how he is dressed? is it girls who cause those feelings of physical insecurity, or is it watching other boys become increasingly more concerned that triggers all of that?

it will be interesting to find out.
