NEW YORK - Outraged relatives of World Trade Center victims heckled former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (news - web sites) on Wednesday as their hopes that he would be grilled by the Sept. 11 commission faded in the face of gentle questioning and effusive praise from panel members.

"My son was murdered because of your incompetence!" shouted Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son died in the trade center. Seated three rows behind Giuliani, she jabbed her finger at the former mayor and waved a sign that read "Fiction" as he gave the city's emergency response a glowing review.

Giuliani finished his testimony and abruptly left the auditorium minutes later, leaving many family members upset that they received few answers. Monica Gabrielle, who lost her husband, Richard, called it a "lost opportunity."

i dont understand. look, maybe next time a major city is faced with something so incredibly incomprehensible and disastrous, we will put you in charge, because obviously, you would have made it so that no one would have died. obviously youre incredibly capable of organizing the largest human rescue operation ever attempted on US soil, and have experience executing it without a single loss of life.

he did the best he could with what he had and the time he was alloted. there was no way everyone was going to walk away from something so incredible. and youre fools for blaming him or the police. everyone did what they could.

shame on your for being so blatantly arrogant to accuse someones incompetence for the death of your child when 3000 other people were murdered while you sat and listened about it helplessly and in a panic. the massive undertaking this mayor had to control is so beyond any ant farm you had as a child or managerial control and action youve ever comprehended.
