its incredibly frustrating to the point of being almost humorous when a customer, typically of the white trash variety, disregards the information im giving them about a particular fish or set up by sharing their own experience.

me: "i dont recommend you try to keep 5 oranda goldfish in a ten gallon aquarium that youre just purchasing today. youll probably run into problems..."

them: "oh, i used to have seven fish tanks. and angelfish. big ones."

this happens so frequently thats its almost expected out of every elderly, overweight, cigarette smelling, tootless person i assist. as if by having seven fish tanks, they ultimately know more than me. and angel fish?!

me: "you kept angelfish? really?! a fish thats been commercially bred in the freshwater hobby for over 57 years? THATS FUCKING AMAZING!!! seriously! do what you want, youre clearly a seasoned expert!!"

the number of tanks you have doesnt make you an expert. and successfully keeping common, easy to care for fish long enough for them to reach adult size is not difficult nor challenging either. now had they mentioned something about breeding clarion angels in a single 50 gallon tank, i would shut my mouth and let them do whatever they needed.
