hes finally growing into them. its hard to even notice how large and disproportionate they are in comparison to his two ruby ear rings.

thats right.

ear. rings. two of them. small. feminine. ruby. ruby ear rings.

sarah would text me one afternoon to not be mad. a follow up would try to assure me everything was ok, but that i shouldnt be angry. then i would receive a phone call.

i pierced my ears at the mall, ashton would tell me. hed always wanted them pierced but was afraid id be mad and not let him. hrmph. youre goddamn right i wouldnt let him. he can pierce his ears when hes in highschool. and even then, only if hes a decent, respectable human being.

not when hes seven.

i told sarah i wasnt thrilled, but that if he comes home with a face tattoo, id be pissed.

"i wouldnt do that, who do you take me for?!" she would incredulously retort.

........blank stare.

sure enough, the following day ashton would feel very uncomfortable about his decision. school children stared. some laughed. some teased. he asked me what i thought of them when i picked him up from school. i told him i didnt like them. that he was too young. however, using the moment to capitalize on some self esteem boosting, i assured him that it doesnt matter what anybody thinks. if he likes them, then thats all that matters.

ugh.

im hoping he takes them out very soon. or at least puts in something a bit more masculine. some small fake diamonds or something. i dont know. face tattoos will never be acceptable, even if he does likes them. even when hes thirty.
