my sun room is flooded again. my feet rest on a rug, cooled and moistened by gallons of water underneath it. when a breeze blows, the water has a wake. this is the last problem that needs a solution. and it will have to wait until monday inevitably.
we went 20 days without a dishwasher. that was a nearly a three week problem that seemed to never have a solution. this is how i would have solved it:
march 3rd, us: hello, my dishwasher broke over the weekend. water billows out through the motor while electricity arcs around it. can i get a replacement?
march 4th, them: thank you for contacting us about this problem, we apologize for the inconvenience. if i remember correctly, you gave us nearly $2500 in deposits and last months rent. we will use that money to buy you a new dishwasher, and have it installed sometime today or tomorrow while we wait to get our reimbursement back from the homeowner.

instead. this is how they handled it:

march 3rd, them: we need to establish if its a plumbing problem or an appliance problem.
march 6th, us: so the repair man came out today, it is in fact broken. did he get in touch with you? what happens now?
march 10th, them: yes he did. we will contact the homeowner now and see how he wants to proceed.
march 11th, us: so do we have a solution?
march 11th, them: yes, we have approval to order a new dishwasher.
march 17th, us: so, when is the dishwasher arriving? can we get it delivered and installed by tomorrow?
march 19th, us: when is the dishwasher arriving?
march 20th, them: lowes will be calling you sometime between 9 and 11 two days from now to schedule a time to drop off the dishwasher. then the plumber will call you at some point that day to schedule an install.
march 20th, us: -angry phone calls-
march 20th, them: the plumber says he will just pick up the dishwasher and install it today.

what a headache. at least we had ashton to wash our dishes. and he did so without complaining. when i called the realtor to ask why this was a three week process, the poor desk lady i had been yelling at droned on and on about processes and approvals. and waiting on the homeowner. what if the homeowner didnt get back to you for another two more weeks, would they as our landlords just let us not have a dishwasher? i asked. apparently they would "...have been on his case every day."
right.
this was the second delay due to having us go through the realtor to get information out of the homeowner. i asked about going forward, could i just ignore the realtor and work directly with the homeowner. they said no. so be it liz sherman. so be it.

dishwasher: fixed. functional. florida. still feels like im just visiting.
